County Presents Gang Initiative to One Voice Policy Board

December 1, 2010 02:32 by dmckenzie

The Fresno County Gang & Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Initiative: Never Give Up! was presented to the Council of Government's One Voice process for consideration as one of the social/economic projects they select to support in Washington DC. For more information on the One Voice Process click here.

A copy of the One Voice Application is attached below.

If selected, Never Give Up! will be a part of an annual trip the COG supports to Washington DC to speak with legislative delegation to secure federal project funding. This year in addition to seeking funding, One Voice will also speak with federal agencies that allocate funds related to the various project goals. They will also develop and present a policy/legislative platform seeking to address challenges that current federally funded projects face in the county.

WEBINAR: Community Prevention Through Environmental Design

April 16, 2010 03:05 by dmckenzie

Gang Prevention is about more then programs and activities, it is also about policy, procedures and environments. On April 19, 2010 to assist participants in the April 22nd Gang Prevention Strategic Planning Forum, we will host a training on CPTED or Community Prevention Through Environmental Design. CPTED is a strategy used to prevent crime through designing a physical environment that positvely influences human behavior. Given that Neighborhood Disorder was one of the top three predictors for youth gang involvement this strategy could be very impactful in making a difference in the lives of young people.
