I can't say how shocked I was to read this news this morning. Literally crying at my desk for the loss of a very kind man who passionately wanted to see better things for his community - in particular, eradicating gangs and gang violence.
I am sure over the next few days and weeks you will hear and read of Scott's many accomplishments, here are just a few from my small side of the world. Scott a member of the Reedley City Council, served on the Fresno County Gang Prevention Council Steering Committee. And at our most recent quarterly meeting just five days ago - he expressed his concern for the group to really be able to grapple with such a hard issue on both a regional and local level and truly have an impact. He also was a strong voice with the Fresno Council of Governments and again expressed his concern and vigilant support for resources to support the Never Give Up! gang prevention initiative through the One Voice campaign. Through his efforts and the efforts of the rest of the delegation, Fresno County has the backing of Senator Barbara Boxer to support our countywide gang prevention initiative. He was a dedicated advocate for what he believed in and I will truly miss him.
I am still in shock, but mostly I feel like I can't move fast enough to make things happen. I am frustrated with the pace, and yet understand that for something sustainable the process is just as important as the product. A great support for that vision has been lost.
Please keep Scott's family in your thoughts, Debra
